To solve this problem first subtract the 4 from 120.
120 - 4 = 3y + 4(-4) =
116 = 3y.
Then divide both sides by three.
116 / 3 = 3y / 3 =
38.6666666667 = y
y = 38.6666666667.
To double check the answer , 38.6666666667 x 3 + 4 = 120.
