He writes of Tom Buchanan in such a way that you would disprove his brutish ways. Unlike Gatsby or Nick who are pleasant to people around them, Tom both beats women, and is a racist ignoramus whose opinions are based on semi-comprehended books of questionable quality. He is violent both physically and psychologically, as he is often depicted yelling or intimidating someone.
