Kim solved y-8<10 and got y < 2.what might kim have done wrong?

y-8 < 10
⇒ y < 10+ 8
⇒ y < 18

The correct answer is y < 18. 

Kim might have forgotten to change the sign of 8 since she moved the number 8 from the left to the right side.
