The steam engine does  1.51 x 10⁴ joules of work per second.

To do 8.72 x 10⁶ joules of work takes it

                8.72 x 10⁶ Joules / 1.51 x 10⁴ J/sec

          =        (8.72 / 1.51) x 10²  seconds

          =            5.77 x 10² seconds

          =            577 seconds  =  9 minutes  37 seconds
