A thesaurus has words that mean almost the same as the selected word.

The terms are vastly different. According to Merriam-Webster, an almanac is an annual piece that presents information about meteorology and astrology of that year, as well as any piece of information from any topic.  

On the other hand, a thesaurus is a list of references that presents words that have a similar meaning or are synonyms.
