y + 9 + 7(y+3) .  (make sure to distribute)
y + 9 + 7y + 21
8y + 30 .

To combine the like terms, we do this:

y + 9 + 7(y + 3)=    ←Distributive Property
=y + 9 + 7y + 21     
←Add them all up
= 8y + 30
