To simplify a fraction, you want to divide both the numerator and the denominator by a number they have in common that is not 1.

For example;

[tex] \frac{4}{8} [/tex]

Both of these numbers are divisible by 4, so divide both by 4.

4 / 4 = 1
8 / 4 = 2

We are now left with our simplified fraction:
[tex] \frac{1}{2} [/tex]

I hope this helps!
