Add the two equations together
2x+5y+6x-5y=17-9

Combine like terms
8x=8

Divide
x=1

Plug the x value in
2(1)+5y=17
2+5y=17
5y=15
y=3

Final answer: (1,3)

2x + 5y = 17
6x - 5y = -9
----------------------add
8x = 8
  x = 1

when x = 1
2x + 5y = 17
2(1) + 5y = 17
          5y = 17 - 2
          5y = 15
            y = 3
so x = 1 and y = 3

answer
solution (1, 3)
