When you say, Less is more. In my mind, it practically means less is best. Meaning, its best not to use to much. 
For example: Some one might say, -"You shouldn't wear too much ostentatious jewelry. A simple pearl necklace is more classy. Less is more."
~Thats basically what it means :)
