The botulinum toxin is a kind of neurotoxic protein that actually prevents the release of acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is an neurotransmitter found within the axon endings of the neuromuscular junction. If such toxin is exposed to the body, flaccid paralysis occur and can be experienced for a short or prolonged period depending on the amount of toxin.
