Agents that antagonize the effects of acetylcholine are called anticholinergic. Anticholinergic blocks this neurotransmitter acetylcholine within the nervous system, by deactivating nerve impulses as a result of the binding of this neurotransmitter so that it cannot reach its receptor in nerve cells.
