why did calvinism become an important form of protestantism by the mid-sixteenth century? Please hurry!

Calvinism became important because then the "higher up" people could claim that they were saved and disclaim that anyone they didn't like was saved without having to present any proof. Which was increasingly more important as more people came over to America and wanted to establish "freedom" of religion. Because the "higher up" people wanted to stay in power.
