This is a decrease of 12, aka -12. Then, the 2 x-values are -1 and 2. This is an increase of 3. Therefore the slope is -12/3. When simplified this equals -4.
Additionally, there is a slope formula, [tex]\frac{y_{2} -y_{1} }{x_{2} -x_{1} }[/tex]. If you plug in the values, you will get the same answer as the technique above.
