9ˣ × 16ˣ = (9 × 16)ˣ = 144ˣ = 12

Since 12² = 144, it follows that x = 1/2.

That is,

144ˣ = 12

(12²)ˣ = 12

12²ˣ = 12

log₁₂(12²ˣ) = log₁₂(12)

2x log₁₂(12) = log₁₂(12)

2x = 1

x = 1/2
