how do I subtract 6 1/3 from 7 1/6?

7 1/6  -   6 1/3 = 
44/6   -   19/3 =
(22-19)/3 =
3/3  = 1

divide 44 by 6, you will get 22/3
The final answer is 1

You turn the denominators the same, by multiplying 3 by two and 1 by 2.
