Answer:

In order to be a carrier, the male must be a carrier of the allele without expressing it phenotypically. This can only happen when the inheritance is autosomal because he has a pair of autosomic chromosomes meanwhile he only has one X chromosome. So when the inheritance is X-linked, the allele of the X chromosome will always be phenotypically expressed
