Why do you think Phillip directed his anger toward his mother and Timothy? If it wasn't for his mother he wouldn't be stuck on the raft, because she was the one who wanted to leave in the first place. He blamed Timothy for not taking him to his mother after he was hit, he instead put him on his (Timothy's) raft.
