Gasoline is very volatile and if not kept in a tightly sealed container will quickly fill a space with vapors at a sufficient concentration to be a fire and explosion hazard. Don't even THINK about keeping gasoline in an open container. Well, you can if it is a dense and heavier-than-air gas.
