2 - (2t + 1) = 4(t + 2)

First you want to distribute the 4 on the right side to everything in the brackets by multiplying both terms by 4

2 - (2t + 1) = 4t + 8

Then you want to add (2t + 1) to both sides

2 = 4t + 8 + (2t + 1)

Now you can get rid of the brackets

2 = 4t + 8 + 2t + 1

Simplify

2 = 6t + 9

Minus 9 on both sides

-7 = 6t

Divide by 6 on both sides

-1.17 = t
