The Declaration of Independence was written in order to clarify and justify the actions of The Second Continental Congress, which was to assume the powers of an official government.
It wasn't only to announce the birth of a new nation, but also to set a human philosophy of freedom based in the values of the French Revolution. It also aimed to consent the human rights to freedom and the pursuit of happiness.
