Why could the action of nations that work together be more effective than that of a nation that works alone?

Nations which are able to work together can: maintain economic relationships through trade, which foster growth in all involved nations economies. If a nation needs resources, they are able to benefit from the sharing and gains of resources. They have allies in war or military conflicts which they can rely on to lend support and supplies. A nation which works alone will not have any of these advantages.
