The Black Death killed nearly 1/3 of the population of Europe, making it very difficult on the labor force and also it led to many religious upheavals as people could not understand why God was punishing them. That was a common belief during the Black Death, that somehow, God was angry with people and had sent the plague as a punishment. With so many people dying, it was hard to find enough workers to do most labor-intensive jobs, such as farming.
