American leaders learned that Roman citizens were willing to serve in public office, not for money, but because they were really devoted to their Republic.

The first people to practice representative government were  Roman.

They learned about the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta talk about limited government. This mean no one branch of government have more power than the other.
