Hey there! :D

Rational number- a number that can be put into a fraction, ratio, or is a repeating decimal.

Irrational number- a number that cannot be put into a fraction or ratio, and it's decimals never repeat.

So, 4/2+5/2= 9/2

9/2 is already a fraction, so we know it has to be a rational number.

I hope this helps!
