Newton’s first law of motion is also known as the
Law of Inertia, wherein an object at rest will remain at rest while an object
in motion will stay in motion with the same speed and direction unless it is
acted upon by an unbalanced force. The seatbelts and airbags in a car provide
this stopping force for the crash test dummy. Without these two components in a
car, rate of death in car accidents would increase.
